The AGA Stableford Championship took place this Tuesday & Wednesday at Whittington Heath Golf Club.
59 players set out early on Tue morning to play 4 rounds over the two days, however one of our players had to drop out after round 1 due to a horrible chest infection! Despite the weather forecast not looking promising, several technical difficulties, and a few minor injuries (including sore muscles, blistered feet, and a bee sting) the remaining 58 players managed to complete all 72 holes of the competition.
The main results are as follows:
LCpl Buluhang Rai RLC got the best nett round 1 score of 41pts.
Cpl Michael Parry AGC got the best nett round 2 score of 39pts.
LCpl Ben Lee Inf got the best nett round 3 score of 39pts.
Capt Mukunda Rajali Inf got the best nett round 4 score of 39pts.
The overall best round of the competition, winning the Taylor/Bartley Trophy therefore went to LCpl Buluhang Rai RLC.
The Scratch winner, shooting 120 scratch points, is Cpl Steve Farnworth Inf.
The Senior (over 45) winner, taking the Harrison’s Shield, is WO1 Charlie Brown AGC.
And the Stableford Champion 2023, winning the Handicap Cup with 142pts, is LCpl Buluhang Rai RLC. A great four rounds off a 13 handicap!
Congratulations are also in order for Ben Slaven and Liam Whitbread; their promotions to Cpl came through whilst they were walking their 30,000 steps on Wednesday!
As usual, we would like to thank all Whittington Heath GC staff, members, and committee for their warm welcome and camaraderie. For three days we were looked after superbly and cannot wait to return! Thank you to Whittington Heath GC Captain Ian Hilary who presented the prizes on Wednesday evening. Big thank you also goes to Thales, our headline and Stableford Championship sponsor, Army Sport, and Comms Spec Ltd, as this event would not exist without their generous support! Last, but not least, thank you to all our AGA members who travelled to Lichfield to take part in this amazing event.
