Army Battle Hard in Challenging Inter Service Championships
The Army Men’s and Women’s golf teams produced strong performances in testing conditions at Saunton Golf Club, as the Royal Navy claimed both Inter Service titles after three days of fierce competition on the North Devon links.
With howling winds and driving rain throughout, the teams showed impressive skill and resilience. The Army Men opened with a solid showing, earning key wins in the foursomes and singles. Lt. Adam Stone RE led from the front with a determined victory over the Navy’s Adam Taylor, while WO2 Chris Bradley AGC, playing his final match for the Army, secured another valuable point. Despite a late Navy surge, the Army pushed them all the way before narrowly losing 8–7 overall.
The Army Women’s made a superb start in their singles, with Maj Gina Smith REME, Maj Kate Eastman RAMS, Sgt Emma Dann RCAM, and SSgt Kim Glynn AGC all securing early points to put the team in contention. However, the Navy rallied late to edge the match and retain their title.
Both Army teams can take pride in their performances and fighting spirit against elite opposition in the toughest of conditions. Attention now turns to Moortown Golf Club in 2026, where the Army will aim to reclaim the Inter Services crown.
