Women’s Spring Meeting Report

The Women’s Spring Meeting took place at Tidworth Garrison GC on Tue 21 Apr in glorious sunshine. A strong initial field of 16 players was unfortunately reduced to 12 on the day due to a combination of work commitments and injuries.

Players arrived in good spirits, and it was particularly pleasing to welcome two new faces to Army Golf, Danni Lewis and Jo Young. The first group teed off at 12:04, with the AGA’s Diane Walters accompanying the field for the opening holes before handing over to the Team Manager around the 8th hole.

At that stage, the Captain, Mel van Zyl, was already playing well, although the competition remained closely contested. Despite the fine weather, a challenging wind had a noticeable impact on play across the course. Jayne Errington began to build momentum with a series of strong pars, applying pressure to the leader, while others also remained firmly in contention.

As players approached the closing stretch, particularly holes 16 to 18, many found themselves tested by what quickly became known as the day’s ‘Amen Corner’. Several scores were affected at this stage, with one player aptly remarking, “I was fine until I reached Amen Corner.”

Overall, it was an excellent day, enjoyed by all. Our sincere thanks go to the staff at the golf club, who once again provided outstanding hospitality and presented the course in superb condition, with the greens receiving particular praise.

Looking ahead, the next event is the High Handicap Championship on 27 May at Test Valley GC.
