End of Season Tournament & Dinner 2024

Following the success of the inaugural event at the BT Tower in 2023, we knew it would be challenging to match that experience, especially as it was always intended to be a one-off. With the kind permission of Whittington Heath Golf Club, we decided to extend the dinner to include a golf tournament on Wed 9 Oct. This was our season-closing event, although Regional and Corps matches will continue wrapping up through December.

With 38 players on the course, teams competed fiercely in a Florida Scramble (Strokeplay). After a highly competitive day, only seven shots separated the top 10 teams!

Winners, Awards & Honours

Team 9 (Stu Hawkins, Vinny Peters, Kieran Sheldon, Kyle Cooper) took the win on countback with an impressive back 9 score of 29, edging out Team 3 (Craig Butler, Steve Davis, Karen Fidell, Glen Watt). Team 7 (Dean Geoghegan, Adam Herbert, Matt Priston, Gina Smith) followed closely in 3rd place.

Nearest the Pin (7th): Jit Thapa
Nearest the Pin (11th): Chet Gurung
Nearest the Pin in 2 (3rd): Neil Williams
Nearest the Line (18th): Al McKenna (right on the line!)

Following the match, 42 guests enjoyed an exceptional dinner, where full colours were awarded to Glen Watt and half colours to Laura McLean.

Corps League Champions:
Division 1 – Infantry
Division 2 – RAPTC (now promoted to Division 1 for 2025)

Men’s Player of the Year – Gaz Gurung
Women’s Players’ Player – Laura McLean

The evening concluded with a heartfelt farewell to Lt Col (Retd) Keith Seddon, stepping down after over 45 years of service to Army Golf. Fittingly, his first-ever round of golf was played at Whittington Heath Golf Club on a Sunday morning, still in his Mess Kit after a Sergeants’ Mess Ball. Over the years, Keith has held nearly every position in Regimental, Infantry, and Army Golf. His dedication to promoting the sport has been invaluable, and he has now been nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 Sports Awards to be held in November.

We’d like to extend our deepest thanks to all players, officials, sponsors, and the golf clubs that hosted our events this year. Your support made this season a success. Here’s to a strong finish for the remaining matches and an even better 2025!
